Mykola Tomenko: A National Nature Park will be founded in Trakhtemyriv
According to Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in response to his address to Oleksandr Medvedko, Prosecutor General of Ukraine, concerning definition of the status of lands of the regional landscape park "Trakhtemyriv" and legality of use of its territory by the private entities, the General Prosecution stated that it continued the scrutiny of the said matter.
Thus, in his address, M.Tomenko drew attention to the fact that Trakhtemyriv used to have unique monuments of archeology, history and nature that were destroyed later. He is also worried about the "specific" association of "a private regional landscape park" that acts at the territory of the reserve and the existence of the private entities that restrict access of the ordinary citizens and experts to the reserve, which contradicts effective legislation of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection that also received the above-mentioned address stated that the association was established in compliance with the resolution of Cherkasy regional council in 1997. However, the project of the territorial organization of the regional landscape park "Trakhtemyriv", protection, reproduction and recreational use of its natural complexes and objects developed by the Scientific Reserve Center in 2001 has not been ratified yet. The project of land management concerning organization and delineation of borders of the regional landscape park "Trakhtemyriv" has not been drafted.
However, the National Program for the Formation of the National Environmental Network for 2000-2015 envisages foundation of Trakhtemyriv national nature park that shall restore the historical-landscape environment of the previous epochs. Scientific development of its territory and environmental tourism shall be of priority in the use of the natural and cultural heritage of the regional landscape park "Trakhtemyriv".
